Child Wave Africa believes that supporting children also means strengthening the families and caregivers who look after them. Many vulnerable children in rural Uganda are raised by grandparents, particularly grandmothers who have taken on the responsibility of caring for children affected by poverty, illness, or the loss of parents.
Through its social care and livelihood programs, the organization empowers caregivers with the knowledge and tools needed to support their households. Financial literacy training helps families understand savings, budgeting, and responsible financial management. Savings groups also provide a platform where caregivers can collectively support one another while building financial stability.
In addition, Child Wave Africa encourages small enterprise development by supporting income generating activities within communities. By helping caregivers develop sustainable livelihoods, families become better able to meet basic needs such as food, education, and healthcare for the children in their care.
The organization also provides support to individuals who have experienced trauma, including survivors of sexual and gender based violence. Through community engagement and support networks, Child Wave Africa promotes healing, dignity, and protection for vulnerable individuals.
By strengthening caregivers and creating opportunities for economic independence, Child Wave Africa builds resilient families and communities where children are protected, supported, and able to grow in safe environments.
